Always use appropriate sunscreen for your skin type of SPF 15+ or above
Apply sunscreen at least half an hour before you go into the sun
Monitor your exposure to harmful UV rays by using SolarSafe wristbands which ensure that you know when to reapply sunscreen or when to seek shade
Make sure your sunscreen has both UVA and UVB protection
Drink lots of water and cold fluids especially children who find it harder to regulate temperature
Children should always wear a hat, and ideally loose fitting clothing to cover their delicate skin - UV protective sun suits are very effective in protecting your child in and out of the water. Ensure that they are a good quality SPF material
Babies under 24 months should always be kept in the shade
Teach your children sun safety. The damage that leads to adult skin cancer starts in children
Protect your eyes from sun damage - adults and children should always wear sunglasses that must show UVA and UVB protection. Wraparound sunglasses are ideal for children
Try to avoid the sun during the hottest part of the day, 11AM to 3PM
